Whenever travelling or working in or near the back country, there is the chance for wildlife encounters. It is important to understand on how human interaction effects wildlife and to stay safe in the vicinity of wildlife.

Wildlife refers to animals that are not normally domesticated and can that be found in all ecosystems, however for the nature of this training we will be focusing on Canada and more specifically in Western Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan)

Human / Wildlife encounters are increasing so it is important to understand and be prepared while working in their habitat as all wild animals (including insects) have the potential to be dangerous. Only a handful of wild animals have been known to attack humans, all have survival instincts and defence mechanisms, which can put human safety and health at risk.
